NOWOCZESNY AKADEMICKI KAMPUS OCHOTA I PROJEKT WARSZAWA

Fragment wielkiego uniwersyteckiego centrum akademickiego nauk ścisłych Kampus Ochota.

This balloon exploration and first on-line lecture from air as a next part of Marek Ostrowski’s original PROJECT WARSAW (Varsavianistyka, City Knowledge Academy. Tt is an innovative program for academic-level education about city areas on the example of Warsaw. It was officially introduced into the curriculum at the University of Warsaw in 2007, and it is taught in the form of lecture open to students from all colleges in Warsaw. From the very beginning, it has been extremely popular, gathering 600-700 students each year. When we run out of space (lecture hall’s staircase included), we divide students into two groups.

The lectures take place at the modern Biology Faculty and Center of New Technologies, which suits the interdisciplinary topic and form of the classes, during which we analyze the city not only from the historic point of view, but we also delve into its biological, psychological and economic dimensions. The students represent nearly all academic fields, which means that they inspire one another and engage in cross-disciplinary research. Varsavianistic Studies emphasize freedom and non-conformity of thinking, while at the same time promoting the sense of individual responsibility for drawn conclusions and decisions. Our aim is add purpose and value to our dreams and actions. Warsaw and knowledge are basically tools for it.

2016 marks the 10th anniversary of the lectures, and the balloon mission with its on-line transmission for students is a form of open-air lecture. Moreover, it proves the point that even initially unrealistic dreams do come true.

Looking at the city from high above is nothing unusual now, but ten years ago it was quite a feat. It is a way of perceiving the place not only in a sensory sense. Each perspective offers a different interpretation and vision of the city. And this what science exactly is – the art of scrutinized interpretation.

A lecture in traditional form by Marek Ostrowski in the modern hall at the Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw.

Jedna z wielu setek przykładowych prac zaliczeniowych z Varsavianistyki, reprezentująca aktywne, twórcze, ujęte w szerokim aspekcie podejście do Varsavianistyki,  prepared by Maciej Błaszczyk and Jacek Wabik: inspired by the lectures and eager to try out new approach to science, they proposed a model of a protein comprised of the W, A, R, S, Z, A, W, A amino acids (W – tryptophan, A - alanine, R – arginine, S - serine, Z – glutamine). Tak wygląda białko WARSZAWA.
